The Grand Old Man of Baseball: Connie Mack in His Final Years, 1932-1956 - Norman L. Macht

I figured out how the author was able to write a three-volume biography of Connie Mack: it's not so much a biography as a season-by-season recounting of the Philadelphia A's, leavened with anecdotes about the players and sprinkled with the recountings of Mack's birthday parties. It's not a bad book if you're a baseball fan, but the sheer longevity of Mack's career (he managed the A's for 49 years) means that the seasons tend to blur together after a point.
