Frederick Barbarossa: The Prince and the Myth - John B. Freed

This is a book that I had been looking forward to reading ever since I first learned that it was due to be published, and I'm learning a lot from it -- but wow, is it dense. Names come in bulk in it, and the similarities between them (apparently about half of the people in German dynastic politics in the early 12th century were named Frederick or Otto) make sorting out who is who in the narrative somewhat challenging.
