Reading progress update: I've read 211 out of 460 pages.

Same Time, Same Station: Creating American Television, 1948–1961 - James L. Baughman

"Independent producers [Desi] Arnaz and [Lucille] Ball, who created I Love Lucy, accepted suggestions from [their sponsor] Philip Morris about the series (for example, that Lucy should not smoke during her on-air pregnancy)."

After reading that, I can't help but wonder if, even back then, cigarette makers knew more about the health effects of their products than they were willing to admit.
